Marian Consecration: Learn the How and Why

July 1, 2019

The Second Vatican Council refers to Our Blessed Mother Mary as
"our mother in the order of grace." Jesus shares His own mother
with us. Just as he came to us through Mary, he invites us to go to
Him through Mary. She is our mother because we are one with her
Son. Marian consecration is a complete entrusting of ourselves to
her maternal care for the purpose of sharing now and forever in the
life of Jesus Christ. The Second Vatican Council went on to explain:
"This maternity of Mary in the order of grace began with the consent
which she gave in faith at the Annunciation and which she sustained
without wavering beneath the cross, and lasts until the eternal
fulfillment of all the elect. Taken up to heaven she did not lay aside
this salvific duty, but by her constant intercession continued to bring
us the gifts of eternal salvation. By her maternal charity, she cares for
the brethren of her Son, who still journey on earth surrounded by
dangers and cultics, until they are led into the happiness of their true
home. Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked by the Church under
the titles of Advocate, Auxiliatrix, Adjutrix, and Mediatrix. This,
however, is to be so understood that it neither takes away from nor
adds anything to the dignity and efficaciousness of Christ the one
Mediator" (Lumen Gentium, 62). We entrust our lives, our homes,
and our parish to Jesus Christ through consecrating ourselves to Our
Blessed Mother Mary. May we share with Our Blessed Mother Mary
in the life of Jesus Christ both now and forever. Sacred Heart of
Jesus, have mercy on us. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for
us. Saint John Paul II, pray for us.
